What We Do
Our commitment for the 2018 – 19 academic year is to honor and celebrate OEF's 25 years of enriching kids' lives through public education! We will also continue our focus on “S.T.E.A.M” education initiatives (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math).
OEF proudly develops and manages key Grant Programs to provide the resources necessary for in-class enhancements and teacher enrichment that will exceed the educational goals of our public schools. We also manage key Events (including Fundraisers and Awards & Recognition Events) throughout each year. And this year we are proud to launch our Volunteers In Public Schools (VIPs) program!
OEF raises money to provide both “Mini Grants” directly to OUSD Teachers to support student activities and “Major Grants” to address a major need at a school site. To-date we have donated over $1,000,000 in grants to our Ojai public schools.
Education Grants: This program provides funding to teachers to support strong programs initiated at OUSD school sites that will improve the learning environment, increase instructional effectiveness, and enhance the educational experience for students and teachers. Grants typically range up to $1,000 (for individual proposals) and $2,500 (for joint proposals), with approximately 10 - 20 grants, averaging $750, awarded each year.
Major Grants: This program provides funding for a group of certificated personnel to address a major need: at a school site(s), across grade level(s), in a specific academic area, one time equipment purchases, or a construction project. Funding range is from $2,500 – $25,000 (up to 3 years). Additionally, matching funds of 25% from a district PTA/PTO or another non-OUSD source is required.
Student Grants: This program provides funding for students to support their academic endeavors such as attending performances, training or classes, senior projects, student clubs, special field trips, guest speakers, service projects for the community or schools, or an enhancement to a class. Grants up to $500 each are available.
Launching in 2018, OEF’s Volunteers in Public Schools (or VIPs Program) provides critical in-class resources benefiting our teachers and students by encouraging community members to volunteer for one hour a week for a semester or a school year at a OUSD campus. Volunteers choose the opportunity that meets their schedule and expertise. On-going support is provided to volunteers who can choose to ASSIST elementary students in a classroom, TUTOR junior high students in math or MENTOR a high school student. Go to VIPs for more information!
Fundraising: To meet our programmatic needs, OEF has several avenues to generate funding support. They include the:
Fall Fundraiser “OEF Celebrates!”
Year-end “Annual Appeal”
Spring Fundraiser “25th Anniversary Celebration”
Awards & Recognition Events: OEF partners with the Ojai Unified School District to honor those individuals who go “above and beyond” to make a difference in Ojai Public Schools. Each year, we:
Recognize our OEF “Education Hero(es) of the Year” and,
Support the OUSD’s “Educators of the Year” and “Employees of the Year"
Donor Receptions: Throughout the year, we also host several Donor Receptions to recognize and thank our key Sponsors and Donors.
